In October 2020, Dr. Christine Gerchow presented at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 2020 Annual Conference and Expo. The IACP Annual Conference and Expo is the largest law enforcement event of the year with more than 16,000 public safety professionals convening to learn new techniques, advance their knowledge and careers, and equip their department for ongoing success. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 conference was held virtually and thus allowed for an even larger number of law enforcement leaders to participate.
Dr. Gerchow presented “Restoration Now” as part of the on-demand programs designed for Companion Track attendees. As part of her presentation, Dr. Gerchow integrated components of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) to empower participants to manage emotional exhaustion, vicarious stress, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. “Dominant therapeutic models tend to rely heavily on the thinking brain. I wanted to target the survival brain, the one that provides input on our emotions, physical pain, and stress arousal.”
A licensed psychologist, Dr. Gerchow provides consultation, therapy, and training services to frontline sectors, with particular focus on justice, public health, and public education.
